Enhancing Education with 3D Printing

Simply put, 3D printing and digital 3D technologies hold immense, untapped potential in education. Our focus is on creatively applying these tools to support learning and positive behaviour. We are developing an asset library that blends thoughtful design with practical application, ensuring that what we create isn’t just useful but impactful. From visual aids and models to board games and trophies, these tools are designed to engage students in a way that makes learning hands-on, accessible, and meaningful.

We are developing and prototyping a range of assets for our early adopters programme. These tools are designed to enhance the effectiveness of our content by engaging students’ imaginations without relying on screens. Each asset is carefully crafted to support the learning process, with thoughtful layers of design to address educational challenges from multiple angles. Our goal is to discover innovative ways for students to excel academically and explore new approaches to learning, while demonstrating how 3D printing can be effectively applied in education.

Concept Example - Trophies:

Our trophy system is designed to foster curiosity and independent learning by encouraging students to explore beyond the standard syllabus. The key lies in utilising the difference between the Syllabus and the Curriculum. Students are guided to complete their syllabus early, granting them the privilege of exploring the broader curriculum, framed as a reward for their proficiency. Initially, we offer close guidance, helping students navigate new areas of interest. Over time, we gradually step back, allowing them to make independent progress.

Trophies serve as incentives throughout this process. At the beginning, students are made aware of certain objectives within the syllabus, and as they advance, new curriculum challenges are revealed, each with specific requirements to earn a corresponding trophy. These trophies are designed to be highly collectible, with different sets catering to a variety of student interests and demographics.

The most exciting element is the introduction of Phantom Trophies—rare, unique trophies that students can discover by venturing into unexplored areas of the curriculum. While students perceive these as hidden throughout the curriculum, educators can use their discretion to reward students who display exceptional effort and behaviours, making the discovery of a Phantom Trophy both a meaningful and motivational moment.

This example demonstrates how this technology can be strategically leveraged to provide educators with a powerful tool to encourage pivotal behaviour with tremendous compounding value. Due to the efficiency of these printers the assets can be created at relatively low cost and made unique without heavy investment or complication like with other manufacturing techniques.

Types of Assets

Incentive

These assets are designed to appeal to students as collectible items. By creating trophy or badge sets for different demographics, we provide a wide range of incentives that motivate students to pursue their personal goals, making learning rewarding and engaging.

Subject-Specific Enhancers

Custom-designed assets that enhance the learning experience for specific subjects. Whether visual aids or interactive tools, these are tailored to complement and simplify the learning process.

Subject Branching

These assets demonstrate how foundational subjects can be applied in more advanced or real-world settings, helping students see the value of what they’re learning in a broader context.

Cross Subject

These tools link multiple subjects together, encouraging joint projects that allow enthusiasm for one subject to carry over into another, promoting interdisciplinary learning.

Progression Displays

Fun and dynamic tools that track and showcase a student's progress, making their achievements visible and encouraging continued effort.

Growth

As our project grows, we aim to expand our asset library, introducing a wide range of 3D models to the education space. Hosting in-person events, we will offer members long-form workshops to gain hands-on experience with these tools and understand their impact on education. In addition, we will showcase these assets in schools, demonstrating both the machines in action and their practical benefits for academics. A strong presence on social media will further amplify our reach, allowing the project to speak for itself while providing valuable feedback to refine and improve our offerings.
